The Al Rahba Greenhouse Project is a cutting-edge initiative encompassing a 30,000 m2 enclosed structure in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This ambitious venture is the first among 15 greenhouses planned across Abu Dhabi, aligning with the Municipality's commitment to enhancing the emirate's green spaces.
To address the diverse needs of this multifunctional space, including walkways, restaurants, and event venues were for irrigation, considering the hot and humid climate of the region. Employing innovative technologies, an ecosystem of sensors and irrigation systems to smartly adjust environmental conditions, ensuring optimal comfort for visitors and fostering plant growth has been designed.Â
The ETFE facade, equipped with openable louvers, maximizes ventilation and climatic comfort, while on-site bee farms contribute to the creation of a flourishing ecosystem. Our involvement extended to designing a signage and wayfinding system, adding the finishing touch to this visionary project that seamlessly blends aesthetics, sustainability, and functionality.
Modeling a highly complicated shape to suit the architectural & eco-friendly intent was a challenge.
The clips & secondary support to match the shape of ETFE roof has to be precise, unless it is coordinated with ETFE membrane shape using BIM, the project would have not been successful.
