The Project consisted in the extension of the San Mamés Berria Stadium cover with a variable longitude between 13m in lateral stands and 24m in the corners. The expansion of the cover is supported thanks to high resistant cables and a tridimensional structure named compression ring. This extension allows to reduce the central opening of the cover from 8.000 to 4.000 m2. This project has been estimated 13 million euros, whose major challenge was to adjust the construction period to have a minimum impact on the football game to be played.
The new structure that supports the extended cover, is itself supported by the existing cover edge beam. It made necessary to begin the project with the data from its real position, obtained by a topographic study. The success of the Project has been possible thanks to the use of a suitable software for the detailing of every element of the project and the constant communication between every party involved.
