The project is part of the Riva Trigoso’s waterfront redevelopment that is made by the variation of the existing road condition and of the Petronio water system and the construction of a new bridge that is designed in order to ensure the road traffic and the pedestrian traffic on separate roadways and also to ensure a suitable hydraulic franc.
In a contest such as the waterfront in which the city's historical and cultural character must deal with the new tourist and productive vocations, the bridge has to become the symbol of the rebirth for a strategic area without deprive and distort the city's identity.
The bridge type is the classical arched bridge with a suspension system made with cables.
The choice of a single arch tilted, in addition to its strong architectural value, increases the image of lightness together with the small thickness of the deck and also appears structurally more rational in relation with the contribution that it makes by resisting to the twist of the structure.
The bridge has a single span of 55m length and 230 tonnes weight, designed with a composite system of steel and concrete structures that is supported by the arc about 8.5m high and by the hexagonal box beam that also works as a chain. The deck, about 12.20m width, is supported by a series of crosspieces realized with a tapered section, set at intervals of about 3.40m; on the sea side is positioned a footbridge connected to the main beam by a series of cantilevers. The pedestrian way has a curved profile approaching to the bridge at midspan and distances itself close to the abutments.
