Project description
During the development of my master’s degree thesis on construction innovation at Department of Construction Engineering of the University of São Paulo, 2015 - 2017, two infrastructure concrete models were created using some different BIM software.
These models served as a basis for comparison between the software’s features to support the digital interface between reinforcement detailing and cut&bent rebar fabrication. The interface with the rebar MES software, rebar processing systems and export data from the model using industry standard formats such as BVBS, were also analyzed.
BIM, Tekla Software and Trimble
The result of the study was a conference paper presented at the 1st Workshop on Process Technology and Constructive Systems (TECSIC) at the University of Campinas ¬– UNICAMP (São Paulo, Brazil) that showed a benchmark of some different BIM software for rebar detailing design (Tekla Structures, Autodesk Revit and Allplan Engineering) and their native and additional extension to automatic transfer data from the model to rebar cut-and-bent fabrication.
In addition, this study was used to produce an extended paper for a Brazilian journal (not yet published, currently in the peer review phase).
