Project description
The EPIC project is six-story office building located in Malmö (Sweden). EPIC is a "green" building. In accordance with the requirements of the WELL standard, the factors influencing the health and well-being of the people in the building were assessed and taken into account.
For the Awards, the form of steel columns, bridges and cantilevered staircases in the atrium zone of the business center were offered. On one side of the building, the bridges have a movable support. Stairs are cantilevered trusses that are attached to bridges. All designs are bolt-on assemblies, which eliminates the need for welding work on the construction site.
Challenges and success factors
Geometry from Tekla Structures was transferred to the analysis software, which provided a quick choice of the optimal form of the constructive scheme. Direct export from Tekla Structures to the IDEA Statica program was used during joint analysis. Thanks to the great export possibilities, analysis of the joints was provided in real geometry.
While creating the final BIM model, the basic components of Tekla Structures, profiles catalogs and materials, as well as unique ones, developed by the designer had been used, which enables the achievement of a high degree of accuracy, detail of the development of assemblies and visualization of the mounting connections. Subsequently, on the basis of the finished model, the installation drawings and the working drawings of the detailed steel construction section were carried out.
Architects reported on the changes in the project by exporting the architectural IFC model, PDF and DWG drawings with the changes marked.
"We received high-quality information for the project, and besides it was convenient to work on creating an information model of high accuracy with the level of development of LOD 400." - comments the leading design engineer, Sergey Severin.
