The 25m Tindal Air Traffic Control Tower is one of nine (9) towers to be provided at Defense sites around Australia.
Working in close association with the design & construct team, idetail3D were required to be flexible with design changes and attentive to transport and buildability issues. Due to the remote location, many intricate components were included as part of the structural steel model to address problems in-office before they eventuated on site.
A trial assembly of the top 3m tier of the tower was carried out to monitor buildability once onsite. There were a few aspects of the construction sequence that presented challenges, for example, lowering in the internal ‘Tower Environmental Enclosure’ (a 3x3x3m module) within 10mm tolerance through an opening in the top of the tower. The trial assembly proved the quality of detailing and fabrication as this stage was carried out seamlessly.
