This box culvert is used for cross-over of a river in a rural area. The box culvert is for a total length of 41.6 metres and for a total width of 6.5 metres including sidewalks/footpaths. There are in total 5 boxes of span length 8.2m c/c. The design calculations are done manually for design data as given:
a. Discharge of water = 5000 cusec
b. High Flood Level = 5m
c. Velocity of water = 1.8 m/s
d. Unit weight of soil = 1900 kg/cu.m.
e. Loading class - IRC Class A-A
The design calculations gave thickness of walls and decks of 600mm to be sufficient.
Tekla Structures has been used to model the culvert and detail the same. Modelling of each box, along with sidewalks and detailing of the whole structure has been processed thoroughly. Calculated reinforcements have been used in the model.
The beams of sidewalks have varying depths for which modelling was difficult. Hence 3D Model of such a beam has been imported from AutoCAD to use it in the modelling of the structure. Reinforcements are created keeping in view of the required cover and provision of required development length. The walls and deck slabs had haunched portions for which again AutoCAD 3D Models were imported and joined in the structure. Uses of Commands like Copy Special -Mirror and Linear have helped tremendously in this project. Due to irregularities in the project, the reference coordinates had to be shifted often to get desired results.
Use of Tekla structures has also been helpful in creation of detailed drawings. Elevations, Sections and detail views have been created quite easily.
