The Wharf prides itself on being a waterfront destination within the heart of Washington, DC. The work on this large-scale construction district included 5 locations of new construction broken up between parcels and waterfront docks. All of the miscellaneous, ornamental, and custom metal work was detailed in Tekla Structures. During the scope of work, there were requirements for many one-off custom builds including the monumental stair that is featured in this video. This stair truly spotlights the high-class aesthetics of the entire construction project and the type of work that was completed in Tekla Structures.
Some of the challenges that were faced on the Wharf in DC included the tight time frame and need for very specific coordination along many fronts of the job. One example of this, specifically in this aspect of the job, was the stair glass panels themselves. These panels needed to align perfectly with the curtain wall fabrication. Tekla Structures enabled an ease of coordination and provided truly constructible information that provided a truly seamless match. Work was also able to be handled in the engineering and detailing phases that allowed the project team to bypass a significant amount of in-field coordination. With Tekla Model Sharing, the team knew exactly where members should be in the field, and instead of having to measure and verify full layouts, were able to confirm locations matched with model projections.
