Passion and Ability to Adapt Spurred BIM Manager Simon Iversen’s Career
Passion and ability to adapt spurred BIM Manager Simon Iversen’s Career. Currently, Simon Iversen works as a Business Area CAD/BIM-Manager at WSP Construction Design, one of the world's leading engineering firms, but after graduating from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, the civil engineering graduate worked as a structural engineer for several years. His career took a new turn eight years ago when a managerial position opened up for him.
“I had a lot of opinions about doing things more efficiently, spoke them out loud and they probably thought I could do it,” Iversen laughs. While he enjoyed the technical aspects of his work as a structural engineer, it is meeting with other people that really inspires him. In the managerial position, he is able to combine the two interests: Technical development and working with people.
Iversen has two pieces of advice for current students and new graduates. Studying and working hard is important, but in the working life, he believes that, first and foremost, the ability to adapt to changes is crucially important.
“We do not know what lies ahead in the next ten years, so the ability to adapt to changes will be the most important thing,” he states.
Another important part is passion. Iversen believes that passion happens when you place the right people in the right positions. “If you are passionate about what you do, you can achieve almost anything. In the right company, opportunities will arise, you just need to grab them,” Iversen concludes.
