Three Extensions That Any Concrete Contractor Should Download From the Tekla Warehouse Right Now!

Boosting productivity, saving time, and getting more accuracy!  Discover the newest Fit Objects, List Manager, and the Navisworks and Revit Import extensions and why you should download those from Tekla Warehouse right now.

In March 2021, we announced the release of Tekla 2021, the latest version of our structural Building Information Modeling (BIM) software solution for the construction industry. The updated version delivers enhancements, improvements, and new features that simplify the user experience for more efficient workflows, increased productivity, and collaboration across project teams.

Having said that, did you know that in addition to the new features and improvements shipping with the newest Tekla Structures version, you can also add content from Tekla Warehouse to suit your needs? For example, you can download extensions that will facilitate your modeling work or even take it to the next level.

Tekla Warehouse is a service for collaboration, storing, and sharing Tekla Structures content. It provides centralized access to a wide range of tools and content that you can use in your Tekla Structures models.

Three new extensions from the Tekla Warehouse that will benefit concrete contractors:

1. Fit Objects Together Perfectly With the Fit Objects Extension

The Fit Objects tool is an application for Tekla Structures BIM software. This tool fits any two objects together by applying cuts where necessary and creating additional material to fill gaps. It works for most object types (beams, columns, etc.), but it is especially beneficial for walls, slabs, and plates.

There are many things you can do with the Fit Objects tool:

  • You can easily fit two objects together: By doing so, all the gaps are filled, and the extra material is cut away. Any extra material shares the same properties as the fitted part, so they are combined seamlessly into the same pour object. The objects remain connected after geometry changes.
  • You can fit actual faces or face projections.  You can also easily control what faces are fitted and manually control which faces to fit.
  • You can fit different kinds of objects and materials: walls, columns, beams, slabs...you name it!

The Fit Objects tool is convenient for concrete construction because you can fit, for example, walls and columns to sloping slabs and keep them “connected.” The division is fitted to mold to the slab’s geometry, and it will be adaptive to any changes in the slab. Another use case could be filling the gap between inclined slabs and horizontal floor slabs. Filling these gaps exactly (without small gaps or overlaps) helps create robust pours out of these cast-in-place parts.

2. Next-Generation Reporting With the List Manager

Do you know what changes have happened since you last issued that rebar schedule? Do you have more formwork to order but don’t know exactly how much more? If you would like enhanced control of your reports, the List Manager is the extension for you.

With this extension, you can add revisions and issue reports while keeping track of changes between revisions. The List Manager creates lists of objects either from filters, existing drawings, or manually selected objects. You can assign any number of reports to this list. Reports such as rebar schedules can be given revisions and attached to issued packages. The tool automatically tracks changes to the mode. It flags those changes up to existing lists allowing you to issue new revisions with complete information and confidence.

The game-changer here is that once you issue reports, the List Manager automatically writes data, such as the issued date, to the listed objects, creating traceable information that can be used for other needs. For example, you can export your model to Trimble Connect, where issues can be reviewed to discuss and resolve RFI’s.

3. Importing Navisworks and Revit Files as Reference Models

If you often receive models in Revit and Navisworks format that you want to compare to your Tekla Structures model, you will be left wondering how you have managed without these extensions.

Say goodbye to hassle and hello to simplicity. These extensions allow you to import Revit and Navisworks files directly into Tekla Structures as reference or overlay models for coordination, clash checking, and constructability reviews.

In the past, you would have needed to find a way to convert those files to a format readable by Tekla Structures, such as IFC - creating an extra step and often requiring licenses of Navisworks, Revit, or even third-party software. This extension will save you money, stress, and time.
