BIM Engineering Solution & Technology Sdn Bhd (BEST) was incorporated in 2013. The company provides value-added engineering services with integration of digital smart technologies. It is the only company in Malaysia that provides BIM modelling for cast in-situ RC structures (up to LOD 400).
The role of BIM Engineering Solution & Technology Sdn Bhd (BEST) for KVMRT Line 2, known as Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya line (SSP Line) which is also the 12th rail transit line and the 4th fully automated and driverless rail system in Klang Valley area, Malaysia is to provide value engineering services in BIM modelling to design consultant and contractor due to the complexity of reinforcement in the piers. The reinforcement in the pier, particularly in the crossbeam is too congested, thus the consultant and contractor are unable to ensure that it is clash-free and constructible. However, with BIM modelling, it allows both the consultant and contractor to visualize the end result as well as furnish them with clash-free report and bar bending schedule.
Using Tekla Structures, clashes were detected using Clash Check Manager and design modifications were made to coordinate heavily congested reinforcement steel bars to enable installation works on site. Besides that, accurate bar bending schedule was generated quickly using the Bar Bending Schedule Template. In addition, the features that Tekla allows completion of the project with accuracy.
Some of the challenges faced include the interface and the communication between the consultant and contractor during design modification. It was resolved through the usage of 3D model where the consultant used BIMSight to review the design.
The project commenced in Oct 2014 for planning and is planned for completion in July 2022.Â
