This dealership is roughly a 146,000 square foot building, and is possibly the largest Harley Davidson dealership in the world. Similarly sized dealerships are located in Daytona Beach, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada measuring around 109,000 and 104,000 square feet respectively. To help with general proportions, the average Wal-Mart retail store in around 100,000 square feet. This new dealership is replacing a now closed Chrysler dealership, and is owned by GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons. The dealership will contain underground parking, a full-service tattoo parlor, a café, and a theater for small events or announcements.
The Harley Davidson project dealt with a ground floor level that changed depending on locations in the building. This change in elevation affected the steel layout and finished lengths of several members. Coordinating the elevation changes was tedious, but the 3D and BIM capabilities of Tekla Structures allowed the project to be detailed smoothly.
The overall benefit for the Harley Davidson project was clearly the ability to monitor and track the various elevations throughout the project. We, as steel detailers, are able to maintain extreme accuracy with the design intent and any field conditions that may occur because of the 3D and BIM capabilities that Tekla Structures offers.
