City Hyde Park, the $114 development designed by Studio Gang Architects, is a 532,541-square-foot, 14-story mid-rise located at 5105 South Harper Ave, Chicago, IL. The development comprises 176 residential units with retail located on the first and second floors, including a Whole Foods.
The Tekla model was used to decide how complex areas, including the column and balcony system to the south of the mid-rise and the dock area on Level 1, were to be framed. Most of the columns were irregular shapes and had box outs for slab edge covers that were a part of the window system.
McHugh Construction utilized the Tekla model for everything from creating drawings for the trades onsite to using it as a visual aid for deciding the method of work. We also found it extremely beneficial for extracting concrete quantities, in addition to being a critical component to the project MEP coordination process. Our technical engineers used the model to do all their concrete layout and get a good understanding of this complex structure.
