2016 North American BIM Awards - MV22 New River Aviation Complex
"MV-22 New River Aviation Complex is located in Jacksonville, North Carolina. It is a 2,560 ton state of the art training facility for the MV-22B Osprey aircraft and is the only training center for this aircraft in the Department of Defense. This design build project consists of 2 seperate structures. The first structure is a 53,000 s/f, 260 ton Office Building. The second structure is a 163,000 s/f ,2300 ton Hangar. Special challenges for this project would include the 1270 foot clear span at the folding mullion doors, unique truss geometry and an agressive schedule.
MV-22 Mega Hangar is the world's largest Marine Corps facility.
Previously, the air station was home to six squadrons but only able to house five of them permanently, meaning one squadron had to always be deployed. The new Marine Corps facility has plenty of room for all deployable squadrons – making it the largest Marine Corps facility in the world. This facility, designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, includes a hangar bay, shop space, flight line operations space, two aircraft wash racks and maintenance functions. "
