Easy modeling of complex platework with lofted plates
It’s now easier to create lofted plates between construction objects including lines, arcs, and polycurves. The lofted plate tool can be used to easily create complex geometry with straight, single curved and double curved shapes.
You can also create unfolded single part drawings of single primitive lofted plates and tangentially continuous poly curves lofted plates. This enables modeling and unfolding of twisted plates, transitional duct work profiles, and other curved plates including bridge related plate work, vastly improving your ability to model complex projects.
“Excellent improvement”

Easier detailing of hollowcore elements
Tekla Structures 2020 makes hollowcore detailing more productive and flexible and less prone to errors.
- The improved Floor layout tool, purpose-built for creating and modifying precast hollowcore, half-slabs, double-tee, and solid slab floors, makes detailing of more complex hollowcore element structures faster and less error prone. Improvements include automatic hole reservations, defining maximum slab length, optimizing slab width and a new way of defining any properties for individual slabs.
- Enhancements in Hollowcore lifting loops component enable lifting insert creation to opposite corners of hollowcores.
A new “Use DWG for modeling” tool transforms 2D design to 3D model. Use design intent of floor bay polygons to create Floor Layout components. The same tool enables you to transform dwg blocks into 3D embeds. With this functionality you can convert hundreds of electric reservations in flooring to actual embeds with one click.
Formwork tools readily at hand
Tekla Structures 2020 streamlines the use of formwork tools. As an integral part of Tekla Structures, the tools are now ready to use out of the box.
The version is delivered with the latest improvements and comes with example formwork systems, so you can get a flying start using the formwork tools. To use supplier specific panels, you can access a wide selection of product families from multiple suppliers in Tekla Warehouse.
Modeling sloping slabs is now easier than ever
Now it’s even easier to model complex geometries such as slabs with varying elevations. Improved user interface, ability to add vertices to slab faces, visual display of vertex positioning and elevation are just some of the improvements added to this popular Tekla Structures 2019i feature.
“Very helpful for modelling complex plane geometries”

Explore different design options easily with Grasshopper
We now have a link between Tekla Structural Designer and Grasshopper which allows you to explore different early-stage design alternatives quickly and easily. You can manipulate key parameters in Grasshopper which are linked to Tekla Structural Designer to compare alternatives. This new process makes it possible to find the best design alternative for your client faster than before.
Utilize your model information with other applications through Open API
Some functionality of Tekla Structural Designer has now been opened via an API. The new API allows you to integrate your model data easily into other software or applications.
Design Precast Concrete with Tekla Structural Designer
The new link between Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds allows you to design Precast Concrete column and beam elements. This workflow is ideal for all engineers located in Norway, Sweden and Finland performing designs of Precast Concrete to suit the specifications of Eurocode BS EN 1992-1-1.
Analysis forces and design results can be seamlessly transferred between Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds allowing you to meet code compliant design requirements whilst also producing final calculations which can be submitted to a checking authority.
Changes to section sizes and bar reinforcement can be returned to Tekla Structural Designer, and design calculations are automatically saved as part of the Tekla Structural Designer model.
Predefined connection resistance database for Eurocode and AISC
Tekla Structural Designer now comes with a predefined connection resistance database, which includes a range of connection types for Eurocode and AISC. This saves you from having to set up your own. The capacity of connections can now be checked as part of the design and helps you to identify potential issues of forming connections early in the design process.
Automatic modeling of partial fixity
Tekla Structural Designer now has the ability to model a connection stiffness between “Fully FIxed” and “Pinned” for Beams to Columns, Beams to Beams, Beams to Walls and Beams to Supports. Partial fixity is achieved through a unique “Link” element within the solver model. Modeling connections with partial fixity is managed automatically, which makes your work easier and faster.
Use Tekla Tedds with Tekla Structures for automated calculations
This workflow allows you to link Tekla Tedds documents to Tekla Structures models. With this feature, you can directly attach Structural Engineering calculations to Tekla Structures objects for future submission to checking authorities. Existing documents may be linked along with a feature, allowing new documents to be created which can then easily be modified or reviewed.
A brand new feature of this link is that you will be able to launch supported calculations directly from the Tekla Structures interface. Applicable data is automatically populated from the Tekla Structures model. The integration process can also be easily defined by users to allow any sort of Tekla Tedds calculation to be associated to a variety of Tekla Structures objects.
What is Tekla Tedds?
Tekla Tedds is easy-to-use software from Trimble that engineers can rely on for accurate calculations. With Tekla Tedds, engineers can streamline engineering design, avoid errors and present output professionally.

Easy modeling of DELTABEAM® Composite beams
Tekla Structural Designer now supports a database of predefined DELTABEAM® sections which provides a faster and easier way for modeling and analysis. You can select a needed profile to analyze a global structure, and a final DELTABEAM® design is performed by Peikko. The size of DELTABEAM® can be determined by using Peikko Designer® DELTABEAM SELECT, a free online service. Tekla Structural Designer generates a report of member internal forces that can be directly sent to Peikko. DELTABEAM® composite beams are shown on drawings and reported in material listings.
Better company-specific visualizations with Trimble Connect Organizer
You can now customize what data you send to Trimble Connect, giving you a powerful and flexible way to view the data. Using the new Trimble Connect Organizer, you can push any data—for example, data related to production routing from the EPM database—into the cloud version of Trimble Connect. You can also layer, filter, and colorize data to create a visualization that is meaningful to you and share it with other Trimble Connect Business Premium users.
Better tracking of assemblies and parts
You now have greater flexibility to track parts and assemblies through stations and routes on the shop floor. Once the tracked parts have been processed, you can choose which station the parts come together at to form an assembly. This allows for greater accuracy in production reporting as you have more flexibility in the way stations and routes can be configured to reflect your specific production settings.
Improved visibility for external processes and progress
You can now designate internal and external stations and routes for tracking processes outside your own facility. This gives visibility and reporting options on the progress of a project not only in the fabrication shop, but also tracking for external processes like erection. The status of the external stations and routes can be updated via Tekla EPM Go and can be visualized in Trimble Connect. This way the erection crew can update the erection progress from the field using EPM Go, and share these statuses both internally and externally in real time.
“A very interesting tool ... I will definitely use it in practice”
