21 Moorfields is a landmark commercial development located above Moorgate station in the City of London
The building bridges directly over the shallow Moorgate Underground Station and the recently opened Elizabeth line station box. The design expresses the major trusses and structural elements with fully exposed steelwork in numerous areas.
Complex temporary works
The 21 Moorfields project required a large amount of complex temporary works to enable the station over-build and facilitate the construction of eight major trusses and six large structural arches. The use of Tekla and its associated BIM capabilities were central in coordinating the significant number of interfaces with other parties – and in communicating the architecturally sensitive detailing to the wider design team throughout the development of the project.
The use of shared Tekla models and Trimble Connect allowed for easy flexing of the WHL modelling team to meet the varying project demands, communicating across functional areas of the WHL business and managing the many changes experienced throughout the design period.

Important points or benefits:
- WHL's role covered detailing, erection, temporary works and connection design. We also detailed the decking in Tekla and a subcontractor detailed grating in Tekla.
- Data generated via Tekla was used for all the regular cutting, drilling, profiling, etc. In addition, Tekla-derived data was used with the Zeman robotic fabrication system; during Total Station surveying of assemblies during fabrication; in scribing systems; and extracting and manipulating data to manage changes to fab data.
- Trimble Connect was used extensively for collaboration and communication with the client design team and within the Wiliam Hare team. In addition to simply viewing information, the Trimble Connect platform was used extensively for tasks such as: model and view sharing; model and drawing overlays; clash detection and BIM coordination; query resolution; task delegation; change management; report generation; data extraction; etc. Significant benefits were experienced by the William hare site team making full use of the Trimble Connect platform.
