Nestled in the heart of one of the world's busiest avenues, the 5th Avenue commercial building stands tall. Boasting 199,000 square feet of prime office and retail space within its 469-foot frame, this building was the perfect canvas for demonstrating the power of FasterFix.
Challenges and achievements
Navigating urban landscapes is no small feat, especially when it involves a busy avenue teeming with traffic and pedestrians. The 5th Avenue project encountered its fair share of hurdles, from managing one-way traffic constraints to manoeuvring around existing city infrastructure.
Rebar, modelled around drainage infrastructure and building pop-ups, along with Tekla detailing of modules tailored to 8ft widths and 40ft lengths, laid the groundwork for a smooth construction process.
Trimble Connect was used as the key collaboration tool, uniting project stakeholders in a shared vision. With all reinforcement detailing approved prior to installation, iPads replaced traditional paper-based drawings on-site, streamlining workflows. The demolition of a 12-story relic from the 1970s paved the way for a luxurious 28-story tower.
Using Tekla software
- Reference models from the design team were in IFC, Revit, and Trimble formats.
- Custom FasterFix components were used.
- UDAs were used to identify FasterFix cast units, reinforcement, and location.
- Trimble Connect was used for project team collaboration and visualisation.
What does Midland Steel say about the project?
“The UK Tekla Awards gives the opportunity to project teams to highlight the features utilised in achieving tasks previously not possible through alternative means. Also a great opportunity for the wider AEC industry to realise the functions and possibilities of various software's and advanced design.”
- Connie Shiel, BIM Operations Manager at Midland Steel Supplies (FasterFix)
