The Esperance Bridge provides a new link across London's Regents Canal between Kings Cross and the Coal Drops Yard development. The 25m long steel footbridge takes its design inspiration from the old railway bridges that used to cross the canal in the past. With its' distinct red colour the bridge takes the form of a steel truss made up of a number of structural cells.

Challenges and achievements
It was necessary to carry out significant design development to arrive at a structure that was fit for purpose, aesthetically pleasing, affordable and buildable. Although the structure is straight in plan there are some complex forms that create its distinctive appearance. The 3D Tekla model was used throughout the development of the design and manufacturing processes proving to be an invaluable tool for the efficient exchange of information.

Using Tekla software
- Tekla was used to export object quantities for estimation and procurement.
- Data files from the 3D Tekla model were exported to NC files for plate cutting.
- The 3D Tekla model was used extensively to communicate the changing design and illustrate the detailing process.
