Located at the heart of Huddersfield, Kingsgate Shopping Centre stands as a vibrant retail destination, showcasing architectural excellence. Originally a modest three-story steel structure, it has undergone a remarkable transformation, seamlessly integrating two additional floors. This architectural achievement has revitalised the shopping experience, embodying innovation and aesthetic appeal.
Challenges and achievements
Constructing a steel structure atop an existing platform posed significant challenges, requiring meticulous planning and execution. The crowning achievement lies in the client’s testimonial, echoing the resolute quality of the Marston Detailing team’s workmanship. Throughout this process, Tekla Structures emerged as an invaluable tool, providing essential support from initial modelling to project completion.
Using Tekla software
- Inputs were received as Revit files (.RVT) and IFC files.
- Custom component 'SEAM' was used for the raking steel connection.
- IFC files played a crucial role in visualising and communicating the project’s intricacies, both internally with the design team, and externally to multiple stakeholders.
What does Marston Detailing say about the project?
“Tekla’s pixels pulse with possibility. It’s not just software; it’s a mentor—an invisible hand guiding the welder’s torch, the draughtsman’s pen. The 3D renderings wink; the coffee cups refill. From the draughting room to the construction site, the sentiment echoes. Tekla, the unsung luminary, receives the nod. The sun rises on girders and glass, and the industry murmurs, “Spoiled for choice.” In this symphony of pixels and progress, Tekla conducts. The blueprint becomes reality.”
