The task for Double Check Digital Engineering was to design more sustainable infrastructure for the rail network using Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP).Â

Challenges
The Llanharan GRP Bridge is a larger scale structure than previously attempted with Glass Reinforced Plastic. Aesthetically, the bridge design incorporates a lattice structure, reminiscent of old lattice-built rail bridges, and adopts a Victorian-style riveting approach instead of welding.

Achievements
Collaboration played a crucial role in the project, as most collaborators had a steel background. This required a culture of open communication, regardless of trade discipline or seniority level, to ensure effective collaboration and problem-solving. The project involved close collaboration with the design team at ECSL, and the model evolved throughout the development and live stages. Tekla and Trimble Connect facilitated collaboration, including visualisations for non-technical stakeholders.
