The POW Cement Storage Silos project encompasses the construction of a pair of reinforced concrete cement storage silos, each over 40 metres in height and boasting a diameter of 25 metres, with a central steel access stair. The circular nature of the tanks made for interesting reinforcement detailing. Slipform Engineering Limited were the package contractor for the concrete silos and steel roof design and staircase.Â
Solve Structural Design Ltd were responsible for all steel design calculations, all GA drawings for the concrete silos, the steel roof structure, the steel access stair structure, reinforcement drawings and schedules for all silo reinforcing bars, and fabrication drawings for the steel roof and staircase structures.

Challenges and achievements
The integration of both steel and concrete detailing in the same model made for good coordination of cast-in inserts for the staircase support, and allowed for accurate placement of access platforms at optimum levels.

Using Tekla software
- Slipform Engineering Limited extensively used Trimble Connect, which reduced the number of RFIs.
