For the latest aquatics centre being built in Birmingham for domestic and international use, CCP were asked to design, manufacture and install the diving tower and 1m, 3m and 10m diving platforms.
The diving tower was to be finished in high quality exposed concrete, so the finish had to be exceptional.
What were the challenges and what benefits did utilizing BIM and Tekla software bring to the project?
The public nature of the project, and the complexity of the design, (specifically the reinforcement), meant this project was quite a challenge. However using Trimble Connect to seamlessly collaborate with consultants, detailers and then communicate live information directly to the customer meant that the design and approval process worked smoothly and efficiently. This further went on to support the install, which was key to a successful project completion.
Tekla was important in enabling us to detail the units accurately due to the high level of intricacy of the reinforcement and bar shapes which ultimately were much easier to detail in 3D.

The project in numbers
- Though this project looks simple, it actually consisted of 31 individual units, totalling over 222T in weight across 92 cubed Meters.
- The complexity of the reinforcement meant we had literally hundreds of different bar types to contend with.
