The Tideway project aims to construct a 25km Super Sewer beneath the Thames to address London's outdated sewer system and improve the city's river health. Additionally, it includes the creation of new public realm areas along key locations, fostering a stronger connection between residents and the river.
Â
Challenges
The project faced the challenge of integrating various materials and accommodating existing structures, such as the grade II listed Vauxhall Bridge. Precise coordination and clearance planning were crucial for the successful installation of high-quality balustrades and handrails.

Achievements
Dearneside, awarded the External Metalwork Package, designed, manufactured, and installed the balustrades, contributing to the future aesthetics and functionality of the public realm.Â

Using Tekla software
Utilising BIM facilitated the integration of different materials, enabling efficient modelling of straight, curved, and sloping sections of balustrades and handrails. Cloud point surveys were used in Tekla Structures to ensure clearances with existing structures, ensuring a seamless fit and minimising errors during the construction process.
