Icarus LSF worked with Carillion Construction to construct a large student accommodation scheme of over 280 units, located in central Newcastle. A time-critical programme due to vital completion dates ready for students to occupy in time for the new academic year. Several complex site constraints included the close proximity of an existing building; two main roads that remained open at all times; some of Newcastle’s main bus routes from the central station and the pub next door that also remained open for business throughout the entire build. This resulted in tight access, vehicle and time restrictions leading to the use of traditional construction methods being unfeasible. The scheme needed a building solution that would deliver both pace and innovation. Carillion approached Icarus LSF to design, manufacture and construct the six storey building using off-site manufactured light steel frame (LSF) technology.
