Description of the UK Tekla Awards
The UK Tekla Awards is a structural project competition for our customers within the UK and Ireland. The competition is a way to express appreciation towards our Tekla software customers and to share their success stories. Together with forward-thinking customers, Tekla software plays a significant role in building many complex and iconic structures, as well as in leading the construction industry's BIM development. We welcome projects of all sizes and complexity that demonstrate collaboration and innovation. There is no cost to enter the UK Tekla Awards and you can enter more than one project but only one project per category.
All projects entered are reviewed by our judging panel who then decide on the winners of each category. Alongside this, there is a public vote which allows the public to review and vote for their favourite project entry. The winners of the UK Tekla Awards 2023 and 2024 are eligible to enter the Tekla Global BIM Awards 2024.
Learn more about the Global BIM Awards.
Who can participate and how?
The competition is open to Tekla software customers who have designed construction projects using Tekla Structures and/or Tekla Structural Designer. Participants need to submit their contribution through the website form.
UK project categories
Projects of all shapes, sizes or materials can be entered as long as Tekla Structures and/or Tekla Structural Designer has been used. If you can’t decide which project you think is your strongest, you can enter more than one project – but only one entry per category. Any type of project is eligible for entry into the competition. The more impressive, complex or developed the project is, the better chance it has of success. The competition has the following categories:
- Commercial projects: A building designed for commercial use, e.g. offices, residential complexes, hotels, client utility buildings, and shopping malls or other mercantile buildings.
- Public projects: A building used by the general public, e.g. healthcare facilities, hospitals, educational facilities, airports, research centres, and government buildings.
- Industrial projects: A building used for industrial purposes, e.g. a factory, power plant, mill, drilling rig, or warehouse.
- Infrastructure projects: Non-occupied physical structures such as bridges and tunnels.
- Sports & recreation projects: Buildings or other structures used for sport or recreational purposes, e.g. stadiums, sports tracks, sports centres and other sport-related facilities.
- Small projects: A project that is small, but is also complex, innovative, novel or quirky. Not restricted by building types.
Note: Trimble reserves the right to place a project to a suitable category.

Tips for the perfect award entry
Joint submissions - The Awards celebrate the project along with your individual endeavours. Throughout the years we have received independent entries that have actually been different parts of the same project. Imagine how much stronger that entry would be if you joined forces and submitted the project as a team, especially if your paths have crossed whilst working on it!
Submit all the models - We are always thrilled to see how many pieces of Tekla software have been used throughout the different stages of a project. But when we download the entry files, more often than not, only the Tekla Structures model has been submitted. If you've used it, shout about it! Send us the evidence and give the judging panel the full picture. There’s a help page for entering a Tekla Structural Designer model as well as the Tekla Structures model.
- Tekla Structural Designer (.tsmd)
- Tekla Portal Frame Designer (.pfr)
- Tekla Connection Designer (.fcc)
- Trimble Connect (.ifc)
Are you using Tekla PowerFab? Or maybe a fabricator on the project is? We’d love to have an entry where both Tekla Structures and Tekla PowerFab were used! And never forget to tell us how Trimble Connect has helped on a project.
Think Trimble - These are the UK Tekla Awards and the emphasis should be on Tekla software, but what if we thought about them as the Trimble Awards for just a moment. Have any other Trimble solutions been used on the project? It would be interesting to know how they have helped.
